Electric supply looped? EV research

EV chargers cannot be installed on a looped supply.
In some situations they can’t. It would seem this isn’t a standard looped supply but one phase of 3 though so should be ok in that respect.

I think it’s to do with current capacity.

Did they sort out the exposed basic insulation on the looped supply?
No they didn’t seem concerned about that. I think the picture may make it look worse than it is. At least we didn’t need to disconnect the neighbours!

The red conductor on the looped supply only has basic insulation. It's a requirement for all accessibly conductors to be insulated and sheathed but the DNO tend to do as they like.

My supply was looped with my next door neighbor and I got Electricity North West to unloop it.

My neighbors were about to redo their driveway and as a bit of futureproofing ready for EV uptake I made enquiries about getting our supplies separated before they did it. The supply came into my house first then looped through to next door. ENW came and ran a new supply to next door and disconnected the loop from my cutout leaving me with the original supply cable to myself.

Didn't cost me anything as they said there was some funding for low carbon technologies. Had to to send them a completed form in relation to fitting a car charger then they came and surveyed it before generating a plan of work which the neighbors would have to agree to and a zero priced quote. Neighbors were happy for it to be done and pleased to be getting new dedicated supply for free as well.
