Hi all,

Building control have specified a fire detection and alarm system to standard BS 5839-6:2013

Looking online there seem to be lots of options at different levels.

What would I need for a new ground floor extension and a garage loft conversion? (extension joins to the garage)

I will obviously ask them when they come out but want to check pricing etc beforehand.

Thanks

Without seeing a layout and having to generalise you will need them on every staircase landing and circulation space.
For information ground floor extensions do not require one unless it creates an inner room, but you are required to install them due to the loft.
BS 5839-6:2019 is actually the current standard.

Thanks all

Do I just put this in the extension or will they want it throughout the existing house to get everything up to spec. We already have wired smoke detectors in the house.

Single storey extension is on the gable end of house and this will then join a double garage, with a quarter of it taken up as an office with stairs to the loft above the garage. Loft will have veluxe windows for escape route too

Not sure why they have specced it as 2013

Thanks

Normally you only need to add to the existing system, and in this case it would just be to any new landing or hallway that is created by the extension/conversion is this is a standard room above a living room arrangement.
