Warmth From Neighbours?

I don't know if I'm posting in the correct section but here goes.

We live in a semi-detached house and we can feel warmth being transmitted from, what we believe, to be our immediate neighbours. We cannot feel warm walls or similar and, when I had the floorboards up recently, there isn't any gaps underneath leading to next door. They don't have a log-burner or back boiler, but just standard gas fired central heating with a combi-boiler in the bedroom and their radiators mounted away from the adjoining wall.

The warmth is sometimes so acute, particularly during summer months, and we have to have our fans on more often. I have felt this for quite some time but my Wife as also noticed more often and commented upon this several times.

I just wondered if anyone else as experienced anything like this and may have some recommendations?

Well I can't speak for other people but our heating hasn't been on for months.

Doesn’t sound very likely. Can you see their boiler flue, is it always going?

My house also got very warm in June and July, and is quite hot now in August. Especially on sunny days.

Have you used a thermometer to find and record the actual temperatures in your various rooms?

If not, please do and let us know.

Look out for
  • Windows always closed in summer and curtains are permanently drawn
  • Excessive condensation at windows
  • Pungent or chemical smells
  • Large amounts of compost, plant pots, chemicals or fertiliser (or empty containers) stored
  • Neighbours reporting many frequent different visitors to the property OR no apparent movement of tenants at all
  • Excessive security measures added to property such as bars at the windows or reinforced doors
  • Lookouts - usually young/teenagers hanging about outside to warn the users of potential trouble

If the shared walls arent warm, and, you've had the floor up and there's no hot air, then, how do you think the heat is being transferred?

What makes you sure it's them if nothing that joins the houses are radiating heat?

Is this a windup?

My neighbour reckons this proves global warming to be real. Eight months ago it was quite cold. Now it's rather hot.

Is there an older person in the household? could be [I have seen it on several occasions] where because of the presence of a [very] old resident, in one occasion the male resident was over 100 years and needed the heating being on full blast 24 / 7

Ken.

Right everyone. Thank you for your comments which have been duly noted.

First of all it certainly isn't a 'wind up'. There are two people living next door, one works early hours and the other is elderly and shielding at the minute due to this ongoing pandemic. I understand its the middle of summer, which believe me, makes this situation even worse. I am just waiting to see my neighbours again just to ask if, and when they may have had their heating on. It is quite possible that my elderly neighbour would have the heating on at the time we feel the extra heat.

I can see the boiler flu which exhausts from the roof by the chimney but, I must admit, I haven't paid any real notice to whether its on permanently. I'll take more notice now.

I have absolutely no idea where this heat is transferring from hence the reason for my post. I am only assuming that it is coming from my immediate neighbours because this is where we feel it more. Where on earth would it possibly come from otherwise?
