My friend, trust me, get the car to a garage and let them check what's wrong with it.
I'm a diy mechanic myself, but i know my limits and I won't mess about with brakes.
As long as you fix a leak here and change oil and filter it's all good, you're not risking anyone's life.
But once you start messing about with brakes, you're putting yourself and others at risk of death.
Imagine if you "fixed" the handbrake and it worked for a couple of weeks, then suddenly it locks on the motorway at 90mph (yes, I know you do it, we all do).
Take the car to a mechanic, tell them you haven't got much money and they'll help you out.
Even better, join a vectra or Vauxhall forum and you will find a competent and trusted mechanic relatively close to you who will fix the handbrake for good and make the car safe. (At least on brakes, we don't know the rest)

Thanks, but I've replaced all the brakes almost a year ago and everything is absolutely fine with the brakes themselves. I'm referring bro the handbrake here

Hi
Yes sir, they are
next thing you need to do is check how much travel there is between the pads and the discs.
if theres too much distance the handbrake will be rubbish......and tightening the cable will do no good.
the rear pads should just touch the disc when you rotate the disc. if they don’t , remove the calipers and unwind the piston in the caliper a small amount and refit them to check what it feels like, keep unwinding and checking until the disc just touches the pad on rotation.

If this is a foot/handbrake caliper, the adjuster mechanism in the caliper keeps the pads up against the discs. When replacing the pads, the piston has to be spun to retract it.

If the focus is on the handbrake and the cable specifically, then I take the cable off and inspect it. As for the caliper's handbrake action, work the lever with a set of grips.

Yes, I understood that.
However handbrakes fitted incorrectly could lock or release unexpectedly as you already know.

What does the rear wheel up and spin reveal?
Nice and free with no brake on?
For foot then handbrake applied?

What grease did you bed the brake pads in with and what brand of brake pad did you fit?

I haven't fitted any handbrake though, it only disconnected it then connected it again

Here is a video from today that shows a few things

Hi , the brakes themselves are fine they passed mot no problems, I drove after fitting new discs pads and calipers for months no problems with brakes , only after disconnecting the handbrake cables then attaching it again the problems started, the wheel would lock up and overheat but drove ok but the wheel wouldn't spin by hand
This is all after I disconnected the handbrake cable . If I hadn't disconnected the cable it would all be ok the cable must have seized and I only want to know can it be adjusted on these vectras with self adjusting Cables ?

When the cable is attached the wheel doesn't spin although it drives fine the brakes overheat badly. Even when the cable is attached but the handbrake is not applied the wheel still locks up.

One of the three cables [1], or the compensator is partially seized - thus holding the handbrake on once you release it at the handbrake lever in the cabin.

[1] Usually there is one cable from handbrake lever, to the balance pivot/compensator, then two cables one to each wheel. Sometimes the first cable it omitted, and the compensator is under the handbrake lever.

Thanks, that's what I'm asking. How do I adjust these cables as I'm told mixed things, that yes they can be adjusted and I also hear that no they can't because on these vectras they are self adjusting ?

Should I be remoi the centre console to check ? I have tried but something is holding it in

Wheres the return spring on caliper for handbrake lever[/QUOT

it's in the middle of the car in the compartment . It doesn't make a difference when it is attached or not and it sprung off a few times so I left it off.

It DID NOT drive ok if the wheel lock up and overheat.
That scrap of a car should not be on the road as it is.
And I'm out since you think that it is ok for a wheel to lock up whilst driving.
BTW, I hope you're nowhere near west London otherwise I'm going on the bus.
