I would suggest that if you don't have a clue whether to leave the tower up or take it down knowing the area you live in and how you live there, then you probably should not be going up a tower in the first place.

Yeah, maybe you’re right. Maybe I should just sit at my computer all day and make sarcastic comments to everyone on forums instead.
My area, like most areas in the UK suffer from things getting nicked. I’ve stored the tower in my garage for at least a couple of years and it hasn’t been nicked. If I then put a massive portable tower up the side of my house then how can I be sure that some scally hasn’t clocked it through the day when they notice there’s some guy working on the roofline. Maybe they’ll get inquisitive and have a bit of a mooch around when we’ve all gone to bed for the night. So asking people that have more experience than I do, a pretty simple question, to see if there’s a clever ‘time-served’ method of ensuring a thousand quid piece of highly steal-able gear still ends up in my ownership the next day shouldn’t be that daft of a question.

Seriously, it would be a bit problematic to dismantle, load and take away a scaffolding tower, let alone finding a buyer.
It would make noise, thieves would need a van without number plate, a couple of man...
All a bit too difficult.
It's a lot easier to silently brake into a shed (most left unlocked) and walk away with power tools which can be sold very easily.
Personally I think you're worrying unnecessarily.
By all means, chain it up to something solid, but don't lose sleep over it.

To be fair to the OP, I've been watching this house get slowly renovated by the owners over the past few years. Next to a busy A-road in a nice area of Liverpool (save the L'pool jokes please!). They had a scaffold tower one the side of this house for a few months up to the roof height, then it was gone. Replaced with a sign saying 'Scaffold stolen - reward for return'.
So someone did have the gaul to dismantle and nick, although the owner had basically left it on show and within 5 m of the road with no fencing or other security.

And also to be fair to the OP, I left mine in the back garden for years dismantled, and for months at a time erected. Not Liverpool though.
I also leave the hanging baskets and pots out the front unsecured, no camera, no £20 motion sensor, no problem.
Did a job last year, left it up out the front all weekend. Did a job a few years ago actually brought the thing back home with me every day for a week, did another left it up, and another left it up but wheeled it around the back. Lots of options.

I had a proper scaffold at the front of my house for a few months, while it was of no interest, the aluminium ladder clearly was - we were on the main road coming out of town and I got bored of hearing drunken idiots at the weekend trying to pull the ladder off before realising it was secured with a massive padlock and chain and staggering off.
What they thought they were going to do carrying a 4m double Youngman up the main road at 2am is anybody's guess!
