Hi

New here just found the site after getting really frustrated with a leak...
Im nearly 75 so before I get a quote I would like your guys opinions please

The guttering is floplast 114mm square line, then 65mm downpipe square ....black all fitted 2017

Someone had the bright idea to clean the downpipe and after that it leaks only in heavy rain.

We got someone to silicone the joints until we fix it but I have had enough although that did work.

The down pipe has a swan neck at the top with an offsett attached (where it leaks) then a small section of 65mm square pipe... then another offset (leaks a bit here too) then a downpipe with nothing else attached.
Rest of it is 100% just the two offset joints.

Ive been told the downpipe has been lowered by 2 inches and that the bottom should not be touching the grille as things can grow up it.

Shall I just order two new offsets and another section of square pipe to make a new swan and also trim the downpipe at the bottom and add a shoe?

These are the things Ive been told by someone I know but he is out of england so any help ....would be amazing ....

thanks

Check for debris in the bottom of the drainpipe where it exits at the drain. You may well find that its blocked and in heavy rain the whole drainpipe is filling and then leaking from the joints.

In fact you can see debris poking out from under the square downpipe pipe in your photo.

Hi.... the screw isnt that long but I know what you mean, the guy put it in to stop the thing moving and leaking.. what else can be used? gutter sealant?
People always say dont use sealant but if its leaking what are you meant to do, heavy rain its like it cannot handle the amount of water....only heavy rain though....

Yes I moved the bottom and a lot of sludge stuff came out so Im going to cut it and add a shoe this weekend.
Was the installer meant to have put a shoe on the end?

So Il cut the bottom and put a flo past shoe on
thats simple, but when I get someone to fix the swan...what should they do?

replace the two offsets and pipe in the middle so it sits correctly?

so many people say dont use screws or sealants but sometimes you have no choice

Its probably only leaking from the joints because either the pipe is full of water because its blocked somewhere or the pipe just can't deal with the volume of water from your roof and is filling up and then leaking from the joints.

I suspect its the first option. You don't seal guttering downpipe joints. You rely on the correctly orientated male female joints (male downwards) and gravity.

I did hear it gurgling .... it makes sense now as to why when they siliconed it, it still leaked a bit..must be the dirt coming out the bottom....
here is a video from the other day when it rained in England

Yep it’s full of shyte. Just needs taking apart cleaning out and that screw taken out.

yep , this weekend going to do it

Why does everyone not like screws, if the screw is short, whats the issue with it?

Just needing to know before someone comes round to fix it

I cut the pipe, but had to do it without taking it off, the end was a cut a bit bent but the shoe fits on tight... Just too hard to cut straight at that angle at my age, but will that be ok if the cut from the saw isnt straight as long as the shoe fits on?

....it is a flo plast 65mm shoe so exact part.

Was hard to cut the pipe without taking it off, but seems ok to me....still very slight few drops coming out swan neck, so think wiil get 2 new offsets and a longer pipe in between...

any advice welcomed as might do it myself
