As mentioned, i found that with castrol oil the engine is more noisy than with quantum, especially the diesel.

So I will carry on buying Castrol 0W 30 as I always have. But what's the difference between that and the H C2 "Honda" Castrol oil pictured above?

It seems you can only get that in litre bottles.

I’ve recently bought a couple of the quantum 20 l cubes on eBay from reputable sellers.
Good idea but awkward to use with the provided taps that slot into the boxes.

I emptied the "cube" content into a trustworthy plastic can.
Old oil in cube, although I let it cool down in the draining pan as i didn't trust the plastic to resist the heat.
Now waiting for local tip to reopen.

I am a little intrigued by the recommendation that only genuine Honda, or other manufacturer filters should be used. Surely the big names, like Fram, Crosland and Mann (to name but
three) manufacture their filters to the same spec as the manufacturer, and, in some cases, may even supply the manufacturer as original equipment. Anyone care to comment on this?

Fram junk
Crosland junk
TJ junk
Mann good
Wix good
Bosch good
Blueprint good

Fram - certainly has been rubbished by all in recent years.
Crossland - the brand name was purchased and are now made in Asia.
TJ - pass, never looked at them.
Mann - German based but with global manufacturing, including Korea and Brazil.
Wix - American and now owned by Mann-Hummel who also now own Filtron, a Polish company.
Bosch - Mann make filters for them.
BluePrint - a distribution label. I got a BP oil filter with the Bosch logo on so out of a Mann factory.

not Crosland, Sogeffi filtration stopped producing filters under the Crosland name, and then sold the brand to Euro Car Parts who now fill the boxes with cheap chinese rubbish.

For filters any of the big brands, Fram/CoopersFiamm/Purflux (All owned by sogeffi), Wix (Owned by Mann + Hummel) , Mann + Hummel, Knecht/Mahle, Hengst, Bosch are all factory fit for one brand or another and all offer top quality filtration which will not do your vehicles any harm at all. I ersonally wouldnt fit anything else, at present i am fitting Bosch filters to my audi and wix filters to my nissan.

in regards to oil, Castrol is very expensive, they are one of the best and are owned by BP, however any oil that meets the required grade will do your car no disservice , i always try to stick to Fuchs and Total, as they are very price competitive, but also very good, with Fuchs being factory fill at most german car brands, and Total factory fill in all french car brands, however, at present i am using TradeTec oil its mixed by Exol and is the only oil my audi appears to not burn, for some reason with the other brands we had significant oil consumption, although not significant enough to push it past the 1ltr in 600 miles mark which Audi advise is perfectly acceptable.

I got fed up of putting expensive oil in the car it was costing me a small fortune, i used to work at a motor factors and now my wife works there and so i decided to go with the oil we sell to trade.

I hope you use Quantum instead of the newly recommended Castrol which I find making the engine more noisy.
For years they insisted on quantum and all of a sudden it's Castrol time.
Personally I still use Quantum in my Vag cars.

quantum is a VW "own brand" and is actually Fuchs in the bottle.

This is factory fill also, however oil company's like castrol pay to have their branding on the filler cap and for VW to advertise the sale of there oil through the dealerships, VW did switch to shell for a period of time, but might be back on castrol again.

Fram - Produced by sogeffi and are the same filters as Purflux, and are factory fit on american models, Purflux is factory on french vehicles (PSA mostly). They are good filters, we prefered selling them above Mahle and Mann as they also came with all the gubbins you would need to fit them, whereas the others didnt.

TJ fitlers are not good

Blueprint are hit and miss, you will never really know what you are installing, most are sourced from China, the filters listed for Japanese imports are from Japanese manufacturers and is only to be 100% trusted for the import market.

TJ had Quinton Hazel on the box but not one id choose to use again.

The Quinton Hazel is now owned by Tetrosyl.

If rebottled oil is an issue, go for a UK blended oil such as Millers, Morris, Westway, Smith & Allan or Exol.

The oil is my biggest headache, we have a good factors near us but they stock all sorts of oil I’ve never heard of.
Not a huge issue if it meets the specs but I’m a bit fussy.

Well if oil is blended in the UK like Smith & Allan, at Darlington, where you can call in and buy oil directly, I'd have complete faith in it. I've used this 5w30 from S&A and its done well in a couple of VW TDIs.

But, personal choice!
