I have been looking for an electrical contractor in the West Midlands, I found Goodwill Electrical but I am not sure of them as I haven't tried their services before.
Peoples idea of a good one can vary somewhat.
Price -does not define if they are good or not so good
Quality of product, installation & Reliabililty are better ways to define if they are good, and you will only tell this after seeing them on the job or previous works.
Far more knowledge and skills required for commercial works (in my opinion) more opportunity also to make money.
Good ones are generally the busiest ones also. I knew one sparks who never actually quoted, he was always to busy to quote and if you wanted to use him a very long wait was required often 6 months at least.

Indeed - but the catch is that a very high proportion of the general public understandably do not have the ability to assess the quality/competence (or even 'safeness') of an electrician's knowledge, competence or work. They can judge if he/she is pleasant, tidy, punctual and reliable etc., and whether the visible manifestations of their work are tidy and aesthetically satisfactory - but none of that tells one anything about the electrical knowledge/competence of the person, or of the quality (or even 'safeness') of the electrical work they do.
That's why, although very often cited as the 'best criterion', relying on 'recommendations' from other members of the general public is not usually anything like as helpful/reliable an approach as many people seem to think.
It's obviously not a problem that is peculiar to electricians - it applies equally to most tradesmen/women and most 'professionals'.
I have seen some really crap works at very good sparks own homes. I even remember one having a metal 25mm single flush box mounted surface in the hallway with a switch on it. Very basic crap but not because they were crap electricians, just no answer why they do such stupid stuff in there own homes at times. Seems the same for many trades, they cant be bothered to do stuff for themselves.

Yes, I think that's a very common phenomenon in nearly all trades and professions; even doctors often completely ignore (for themselves) the advice they would give to all their patients, or ignore symptoms in themselves that they would tell anyone else needed urgent medical attention!
