Basic question: what's this part called please!?

Our washing machine inlet hose is connected to it.

In an attempt to turn the water off to the machine (for a separate repair!), I've found out that turning the lever doesn't actually stop the water - there's still a drip from the end of the pipe.

I'll be able to repair it myself, if I know the name

Thanks in advance

Check the lever is turning the spindle fully, there may not actually be anything wrong with the valve itself. Those plastic levers aren't very strong, and have a habit of breaking. Undo the retaining screw, remove the handle and see if a tweak with a small adjustable on the spindle actually closes the valve completely before condemning it.

I always recommend that my customers operate their shut off valves at least once a year, if they can - especially their mains stop tap. Shut off valves are notorious for tightening up over time, the less they are used (especially gate valves). Operating them once or twice a year keeps them moving so hopefully they should work when they are really needed.
