No hot water

Maybe it’s not on economy 7? I know we’ve got some cylinders that were on economy 7, but think the sparks just wired them into the timer, can’t be sure though.

Is economy 7 not just 7 hours of cheaper electricity overnight for everything? The immersion heaters are both wired to the same control with only what seems like one supply from the switched spur.

I know people who use washing machines and dishwashers overnight thinking it will be cheaper.

It would appear that both immersion heaters are connected to your peak supply ,and do not have the benefit of off peak EcO7 rates.
Only the storage heaters are on EcO7 !!

I see, thank-you for all of your help.
For now I will just use the boost as and when I need it.

The reason for two consumer units was to have one on EcO7 and only energised at off peak times.

Technology / meters have advanced ,as have most things. Older meters could only record X units ,irrespective of time of day. Hence two meters and two consumer units.
There would be no point today having two meters and two consumer units.

I am one of those that thought running the washing machine in the early hours would be cheaper, I set it earlier so that the cycle finishes at 8am (I know my changeover time is 8:15 am as I have watched the meter outside.)

I have 1 meter, to take my meter reading during the day, the day rate shows, I press the button twice on the meter to see the night time reading.

Ok , could well be that you are just being charged a lower rate for all electricity during off peak times . How old is the property ?

Ok ,the original electrical installation / metering system ,has obviously changed and you probably now just pay a different rate for ALL electricity across both consumer units during off peak hours.

Since my original post 2 weeks I have been turning on the boost for 30 minutes each morning and this is enough water for me.

Today I thought I would do some research and learn about the water heater.
I found this video which is quite in depth.
My temperature dial does not have numbers like the one in the video but it was as high as it could go so I turned it down a bit. I did not even know there was a reset button but have reset it and the lower water heater is now working.
This could indicate a fault so I will carry on using the upper boost heater.
