Spare part for soldering iron

I have a Maplins 50W solder station and seemed to have mislaid the end part of my soldering iron, I have new tips but believe I need some type of screw attachment/nut to fit them, anyone know what the part is called or if it's available?

Some tips work a reed switch to control temperature, not sure if maplin iron did that, but would look on craft sites, the same unit used to burn wood, so may find the same iron.

I believe that maplin have been reincarnated, sort off? Some ex employees may work for them, and even though "new maplin" would have zero responsibility, might be able to help.

Have you screwed a nut onto the thread to find out what it is?

Ah, partial result, I found the tip...

So I just need the right kind of nut thing to retain it.

A bit more digging and this station is also known as a Velleman VTSS5 with BITS5 tips 1.2mm apparently.

Indeed. Thanks, maybe I should just buy a new soldering iron.

Any idea if I can keep the base station part with the temperature control and then fit a new 50W iron - or are these things not interchangeable?

If this fits, its probably cheaper to drill and tap the end for a bolt to be fitted.

File the thread flat on one edge, centre tap, drill a hole then tap it.
Then as soon as you have finished that and got it working again, you will see the ring on the floor over there >>> ion the corner of the room.

If your not going to change the tip every five mins. then the locking ring off an early cycle valve fits. It has a slightly different thread but goes on quite a way, then fit washer or wrap wire around tip to tighten on. Bingo!

I would recoemnd getting a new one - and for the items I have below I have spare tips and with the low price of replacement irons, have some irons setup with different tips all the time so only have to unplug them to change tip mid job.

If you are buying a new one,
I would suggest and recommend one of the clones as they work brilliantly and have Lots of spare parts too. Prices seem to have climbed a little, but they do often work exceptional well for the price.

Examples are the "937D". (at about £26)

There is also the "998D" that also has a hot air gun for re-work, but these seem to be in short supply at the moment.
