I'm replacing an old Horstmann Econ7 immersion heater timer. The instruction manual for it is here: http://www.free-instruction-manuals.com/pdf/p3133739.pdf

I'm keeping the old back box and the new installation just requires me to remove the 5 existing push fit electrical connectors and push the new ones into the terminals.

Problem is I can't figure out how to remove the existing 5 push fit electrical connectors. They don't just pull out. Hoping someone here can tell me what is the trick to this or is a special tool needed?

So just brute force then? I don't want to damage anything.

Yes, but make sure you are pulling the connector, not the wire, that's why pliers are required.

They are designed to be a very tight fit, if not they would overheat and damage themselves and the terminals they fit onto.

Hello Flameport,

You kindly helped me out on the DIYnot link below recently and I'm hoping you can answer a simple question for me please.

New Hortstmann timer has finally arrived. It's a straight swap. I only need to mount the new unit onto the old back box. But installation instructions have me confused as to which way up the push fit connectors go and I've now forgotten which way round they were installed previously. Or maybe it doesn't matter?

Image in Fig. 1 instructions shows chamfered side of connector facing down, numbered side up. In reality, the chamfered side of the connector is the numbered side.

Hi Magc,
I have fitted dozens, I always fit them numbered side up. You can then double check before you fit the front.
You will find the cables are the exact length if laid neatly and correctly.

What matters is the order of the numbered connectors.
The physical shape of the plastic moulding is irrelevant.
