I dug out an old metpost and have ended up with a two foot wide and deep hole (with solid concrete/rubble at the bottom of the hole).

I am putting a new fence post in (six foot high fence). As I have ended up with such a big hole (doh!) what would be the best way forward?

Thanks in advance.

snap a paving slab in half (two bits 24 x 18") put them each side of your post and just back fill with earth. when it is well trampled down it will be as sold as need be, stronger than a normally concreted post - think about it, you could never move a paving slab sideways through the ground

Thanks for your reply. Any tips on snapping the paving slab? Being a novice I can see me ending up with more than two bits of paving slab.

Thanks for that, might end up with ten bits that way but we'll see. ;)
