I have knocked out old plaster to brickwork (done by cowboys that never road a horse) many years ago. My ? is do I use a bonding plaster or cement mix, and SBR before using a finishing plaster ( I have to insert a new bit of wire screed as well. Please advise picture added)

So to clarify 6 sand ( plastering sand, 1 cement). No bonding plaster ?

5:1 sand and cement with sbr. you could throw half a lime in if you can get your hands on it. not worth buying a whole bag though.
no bonding coat

Many thanks that has cleared it up a BIT. I thought the SBR was a substitute. Like you say do not want to buy a bag of lime. And if you could just clarify that it is all plastering sand ? I have building sand but will go with your final answer. ( sounds like who wants to be a millionaire

difficult to say . plastering sand where you live may be completely different where i live.
how coarse is the plastering sand?

Hi Benny it’s called plaster sand - certainly finer that builders sand pas you say difficult to judge. Is this for your suggestion In place of bonding plaster? It does seam silly to by a bag of bonding or undercoat plaster

Sorry its called Plastering and I originally purchased from Wickes. - so I have builders sand, plastering sand and sharp sand I read your comments on mixtures previously

id use the plastering sand , but only if theres no small stones in it.
failing that use the builders sand.
