I contacted Aqualisa but they were not able to help which is a shame

I am after the model number of the following old shower to see whether i can replace the cartridge and the temp knob which is broken

The temp knob is stiff to turn

I did look on that website but I still cannot find the exact model so that I can see if a part is interchangeable and can be replaced

how long would a plumber take to change the cartridge. Is it a 10 minute job or a three hour job. Those cartridges are £110 and I can’t replace the whole unit because it is using 22mm pipe work apparently!!

I have a couple of surface-mount Aquavalve, and they have an egg-shaped plastic cover, so yours must be older, though it is fairly similar. I have an idea mine have model numbers in the 400 and 600 range. I can't see if yours has a white plastic shroud or if it is painted white on the brass shell.

I may possibly have an unused one in a box that I put aside for a spare.

I don't see why a plumber couldn't change the fitting for a 22mm pipe. IIRC it has half-inch elbow connectors that can be rotated to fit pipes from above, below or behind.

If you take it apart, there should be a coloured ring on the old cartridge that (should) identify it, though I think Aqualisa now sell a "one cartridge fits all" type. What colour is your hot-water cylinder?
 
Hi thanks so much. I have not taken out the old yet but it’s so stiff I had to use pliers to change the temperature so I know it is the cartridge that needs replacing

I have gravity tanks in the loft and a system boiler so I guess the grey one is the one to go for. I don’t even need to check the old one right

any idea how long it takes to swap over for a handyman ?

my hot water cylinder is gold colour. It’s a ig tank in the airing cupboard if that’s what you mean

ah, copper. That tells us you have a low-pressure system. I hope you have one or two red insulating jackets on it?

Yes I do have a red jacket on the cylinder

any info on how long it takes to change the cartridge
 
if you had the right part, less than an hours work. But there is some doubt so there may be additional tinkering.

An older local plumber may have worked on that model before. Try to get a personal recommendation. The worst source is a website where the trades pay to be listed. It's just ads, whatever it calls itself.

I will try to photograph an Aquavalve tomorrow so you can compare it.
 
Thanks so much. I am quite handy despite what my boyfriend tries to say so I will probably try it myself.

If you are buying a new cartridge, look for the models that the cartridge fits, and a spare knob and lever for one of them should do. I'd fit the cartridge first, I think.

A toothbrush should get the dirts out of the casing, and lubricate the fitting parts with white silicone grease from a plumbers shop. Especially the gasket and "O" ring grooves. Just a fine smear. And on the screws.
