Lead capping for coping stones

I'm having the front roof re-done on a Victorian terraced house. As part of the quote the roofer suggested that I might want to get the coping stones capped with lead: apparently they (or rather, their joints) are not in amazing condition (which seems right) and this would be cheaper than replacing/relaying the coping stones. Two other roofers also quoted, and neither mentioned this as part of their quote.

No other property on the street has lead capping. I've also seen the other thread on the forum about lead capping, where most people seemed a bit sceptical. Then again, I can see the logic if the existing coping (or rather, the joints to the existing coping) having crumbled over time.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Joints are easily replaced , defeats the object of having coping stones if you then cover with lead.

If you don't think its going to get nicked! then then what's the problem.

Thanks both, appreciate the views. Yes, given no-one on the street has them (and the theft risk) think will give it a miss. Worst case scenario can be added as required.
