Hi how would you test cable runs for any breaks, just installed and want to make sure they are okay before I finish, seen an old post from years back about using a multimeter to check for continuance and wondered if it was still the same method ?
Thanks

Easiest way is twist the cable in pairs at one end, use a multimeter to take the readings in ohms at the other end of each pair. The readings should be the same for each pair.Different cable length will have different readings.

What cables are you wanting to test? How about using a cheap LAN tester? If you cut a network lead in half and used the bare ends, you could test any length of cable.

Now that I like, off to make up a couple of test leads as I have a tester already, many thanks

I would go with joes suggestion as that LAN tester is not going to tell you if you have high resistance on pair ....plus it’s probably quicker to use a multimeter by the time you have faffed around ...
