We have a relatively new house, built around 2002, we are second occupier.

It had two smoke alarms (one in hall and one on landing) both with mains feeds and apprantly interconnected - but they never went off together.

Due to numerous false alarms (opening the oven door on the grill would set off the one in the hall ane we got fed up with putting batteries in the one on the landing) these have been removed.

Am now decorating the hall and the ideal option would be to fit a combined PIR and smoke alarm (one was fitted in our last house) which would set off the burglar alarm if it went off. Problem is that they do not seem to be available and web searches indicate that to comply with building regs we need mains powered, linked alarms in hall and landing.

Is this correct and are there any recommendations on what I should fit?

We are a low risk household as no-one smokes.

Your local fire service will do a `free` audit and make professional recommendations that other people will not even think of.
worth checking with them - basically everyone should, I was very impressed with the advice given.

Hope that helps.

they are not available becuse they were unreliable

to comply with building regs you do need a mains operated smoke alarm so even if you could get one it would not comply.

why not just get a differnt type brand of smoke detector and close the kichen door

"Erm . . . you dont close the door while grilling."

You do with a Bosch!!!! Checked the instructions several times when we got it.

Looks like I will be installing new powered onwes but will move the downstairs unit away from the kitchen door.

Any recomendations on units?

why not look at a new heat detector type in the kitchen with optical or ionisation in the louge and near the bedrooms Im not sure which way around it is but one is less likley to triger because you have burnt the bacon.
as someone said the fire brigade will give v good free advice having looked at your individual property
