The roof on the Marley garage is asbestos and needs to be replaced. Is there a roof system that I can order that replaces these old asbestos roof sheets?
Any info would be much appreciated

If the roof sheets are the corrugated asbestos panels then there plenty of alternatives out there, Corrapol is one that comes to mind. Your problem will not be sourcing replacement panels but getting rid of the old panels if they are asbestos.

My parents had theirs removed, boarded and felted. They didnt want a metal roof due to the noise and the bitumen type stuff needs more supports and doesn't seem very secure.

It will probably cost you £200 to dispose of the asbestos yourself....

Things may have changed, but at least 5 years ago, my local tip would take private asbestos loads.
I had to double wrap in heavy polythene and tape, book an appointment and take I D

The dump treats vans as trade so you'd need to check everything, you must only take your own, not a single bit that belongs to a neighbour (obviously keep quiet)

For a whole roof £200 sounds a lot easier

Thanks for the info everyone. It’s always good to ask for advice and pointers.

I think you are correct, although not at the moment? I was a bit confused about their prices as they seem to have it as cost per size, all mine is soffit boards in bits!
I will take it to L&S waste in fareham once I get time! You can tip rubble there for free too

The tip at Porchester still takes it but you have to phone ahead from memory.

he didn’t ask for waste disposal tips ffs.
personally I like insulated plastisol box profile on a garage with matching flashings etc.
minimum timber work, easy to fix and hard wearing.

I did my detached garage and it's extension workshop at the rear, in metal box sheet. I don't find it particularly noisy, but if so you can buy it with thermal insulation added to the underside. I did my 24x12' garage in a day. One issue I found was condensation forming on the underside, in icy weather, if I had had the car out in wet weather, parked in the garage. I cured this with added insulation, plus leaving the roller door partially open allowing air flow until the car dried off.

Metal box sheet, I will check this out, thanks.

It comes in at least two thicknesses, plus various colours, the thinner of which deforms if you walk on it so best avoided. It is galvanised, then paint coated. Usually you can get away without the need to cut, but the suggest if you cut it (tin snips) the galv spreads to protect the cut edge. It uses special fixings and unlike asbestos corrugated, it is screwed down at the bottom of the trough, rather than the peak.

I did mine ten years ago and no complaints from me. A massive factory was recently demolished near here, which had it on its roof and walls for 50 years, no sign of any deterioration.
