Not the point...

Let us suppose he actually pays his 'fair whack' of tax and NI, if he does get the upper amount that's been bandied around then that leaves him with the miserly sum of approx £950K a month...

What do you think the percentage of the average football fan's monthly wage who pays £50 to see a game (when you can) or similar for a sky subscription is?

I don't see your point. Fans have a choice to pay £50 or whatever to watch the game, a sky subscription to sky sports, assuming sky has the rights for the match isn't obligatory. Just market forces.. I suppose your beef may be with capitalism?

I've often thought the same but in another post, he actually said he pays more in tax than the majority of people earn. Then again, he said....no, mustn’t mention it.

Most people have to pay tax, hardly anyone has to go to a football match.

Nobody is forcing the average fan to go to the match or watch sky. The price is the price and they either pay it or not. It’s usually the mugs that are paying £50 to watch a game of football for 90 minutes that complain about 'fat cat' bosses and overpaid directors! Yes, worthy of a '!'

The point is that sport (not just football) is followed fanatically by some, and they will continue to pay over the odds in order to get their 'fix'...

The people making money from them know this...

In the same way, if you raise the price of alcohol an alcoholic will still pay up (!)

Who cares what some private football club pay there players

They can bale a million. A week. For all. I care

It does though, in a way. The stars attract fans, some fans are prone to a bit of hooliganism. To combat this, there is a huge police presence at matches, and those police officers have to be paid. Clubs pay towards it, but not the whole cost, the rest of the tab is picked up by?, yes, that's right, YOU.

Adidas, EA Sports, Lucozade, BT Sport, Nissan Motor, Konami and Foot Locker

These are the some of the names that endorse Gareth Bale. Whilst you may not support any of the above, it is difficult to avoid buying mainstream products that don't endorse sports stars. And has been said, you pay your taxes one way or another.

Bad luck boyo.

That costs you as well. Just about everything that is sold is advertised. That advertising costs money. Can’t see that any of the products you mentioned has gone up because of Gareth Bale.

Anyway, on a lighter note, last year when we were in Spain, Gareth Hale (from Hale and Pace) was in the same restaurant as us, Mrs Mottie took a sly photo of me with him in the background and sent it to her friends. One of them misread the name and commented that he had put on weight and looked older since retiring from football!

Surely, anybody that subscribes to Sky Sports or BT is also helping pay these footballers?

Correct. I don't know if transam even owns a tele. Too busy cuddling his latest V8 engine laid out on the kitchen table.
