What’s your view on the latest coronavirus briefing?

Softening us up for more lockdowns?
Explaining the science? They are appealing to the public to take this seriously, to play their part. Coz it's not happening enough..

Its a pretty gloomy picture they're painting for us. Presumably trying to scare people into complying with the latest rules.

Or to put it another way, telling the truth rather than optimistic flannel.
They certainly presented the facts in a fairly sobering way and explained why they don't think the virus is weakening.

There are a lot of people who probably need scaring into taking this seriously. We can't have another full lockdown because the effect on businesses, jobs and the economy will be catastrophic.

A lot of people are looking at the fatality data and concluding the virus has weakened. But its more down to who is getting infected and their resilience to it. You do see a lot of people making excuses.

At the gym for example - I wash my hands when I enter, I wipe the kit before and after use and I wipe my gloves too. A lot of people don't seem to want to wipe their kit.

The boffins know a lot more about the virus than they did in March. There are now established effective treatments which will help to avoid the high number of ICU admissions for when it first hit our shores.
When you consider that there are now more deaths due to cancers/strokes/dementia etc etc, I reckon we should focus on protecting the vulnerable and let the rest of the country get back to some sort of normality.
There are elements of society which will continue to flout the 'lockdown laws' and I would not be surprised if the first wave of '£10k' fines are challenged in courts.
The continuous 'Corvid briefings' only go to panic some people. Mums are now worried their kids' runny noses may be Corvid and will understandably seek reassurance by a Corvid test which the current resources can't handle.

Total farce...we've had the virus for 6 months, plenty of time to equip everyone at higher risk with an FFP3 1/2 face respirators.
They managed to provide gas masks to everyone in WW2..even newborns.
Then let the kids and lower risk categories carry on as usual.
Not a single mention of the state the virus leaves many...ie. long term fatigue, heart problems etc.
I guess much of the medical profession are scared of their own shadows...especially when up against your typical bully boy politicians, remember Dr Kelly.

Going round the merchants in the last few weeks shows that most under 50s are completely ignoring the mask law...hit squads are needed to walk in and do the arrogant lot.

Probably softening up the general population for more convenient 'rules' and 'regulations'...

Even some tories are worried about the route the government are going down...

Coronavirus: Ministers 'ruling by decree' on virus, warns Sir Graham Brady

"The government has got into the habit, in respect of the coronavirus issue, of ruling by decree without the usual, debate, discussion and votes in Parliament that we would expect on any other matter,"

And that's just the tip of the undemocratic iceberg (!)

they should worry about what they will do if they get widespread civil disobedience.

They have 24hrs now to assess the public opinion on the issue and will then form policies around that - we are not being lead as much as being in permanent campaign mode.

Surely you mean;
"The government has got into the habit, in respect of the coronavirus issue, of ruling by decree without the usual, debate, discussion, hater hold-ups and votes in Parliament"

And that's the problem...

This is being tackled from a political angle, not 'science led' as claimed.
(It would be the same whoever was in power in the UK)

Where there is trust in a leader (such as in NZ), then people are mostly happy to go along with decrees because in the whole they believe it is in their best interests...

There hasn't been a trustworthy leader in the UK in living memory, so it's no surprise that whatever they invent next many people will simply ignore it!

As a matter of interest, I wonder how many people realise that there is no appeals process against the draconian fines that are planned?

I wonder if this will extend to other 'penalties' in the future under the guise of a never ending 'emergency' situation?

I guess you don't believe in parliamentary democracy?
