Hotpoint frost free freezer

Hi,

Have an integrated frost free freezer. At the top it was making an awful noise. Had hotpoint out and he said the fan that blows the cold air is hitting ice and it needs defrosting.

Since when do frost free freezers need defrosting?

Anyone else had this problem?

Out of interest this is an integrated machine. Where is all the water going to go? I can't get the machine out

there will be a collection dish for the melt water, usually positioned on top of the motor/compressor assembly, so that waste heat evaporates it. Usually it is accessible at the bottom of the back of the machine. Sometimes there is a grill at the bottom front, and these parts are underneath the cold cabinet.
I hear that in some machines it is boxed in, but I have not seen that.

the dish can get quite grimy, with mould growing in the dish, especially if juices, blood from meat, or scraps of food get into the drainage channels.

not inside the cabinet. It will be outside, so that water vapour can escape.

At the top of your freezer section I see some grilles, so probably the fan is up there.

The ice will collect in the ducts, which will be behind those holes, that the fan blows air in/out of. And the ducts will drain into a dish underneath the cabinet. They have heaters to melt the ice, but if the ice gets too thick, or the heaters fail, you need a manual defrost.

If you take out the bottom drawer, you might find it is shallower than the others, to allow space for the machinery at the back.

Or, if the "plinth" is part of the appliance, or designed to accomodate the motor, it might be inside there.

See if you can get hold of the installation instructions in the user guide. There are probably diagrams that wil explain it.

thanks again. I spoke to hotpoint and he said it should run out of that grill/hole in the bottom shelf.

He also said frost free freezers should be defrosted once a year. Brand new information for me

Once a year, I go at the back of my 'frost free' Hotpoint FF with a hammer to get rid of the ice build up!
