I have a 4mp hikvision cctv cam at front of house.

Been offered 3x hikvision 2mp (1080p) cameras. Usual ip67, night vision etc.

For £30

Intention is to put these on the other 3 sides of the house.

Question is : is it worth it?

It'll be a pain to network them / secure them on the eaves etc, and concerned I'll be dissatisfied with image quality.

They'll cover a fairly wide area from above.

As I'll have a 4mp at the front of house, concerned I may regret not stumping for 4mp all round. However, 4mp hikvision all round wont be cheap.

Thoughts?

Go for it or stump up significantly more for better cameras?

You get what you pay for at the end of the day, if you’ve got the money for more 4mp then go for it. If not take the 2mp get them cabled and then just update them as and when you can

Check YouTube for footage from them cameras and decide if you would be happy with it then make a decision.

I went from 3 Panasonic pan tilt and zoom at 350 per camera (back in 2013) to a Reolink 4K (4 fixed cams plus NVR) total cost £400 last year.

The downside is fixed camers

The upside is dramatic inprovement in picture quality.

Not pushing Reolink, just using it as example.

What models and year of manufacture as hik 2mp means absolutely nothing to be honest. 2MP color vu be different an early 2mp camera.
The area to cover will determine if the cameras are adequate for the job there are to do.
