Advice for best way to remove and fill in an internal window

Hi

We currently have a window between our kitchen and WC - not ideal! So we are going to get rid of it and block it in. We want to do it so that in the WC it looks just like the rest of the wall and so no-one would know it had ever been there. On the kitchen side we would like to leave a recess so that we can put in a couple of shelves for small jars and similar.

What would be the best way of going about this?

I should add that we will be having a new towel radiator in the WC and I imagine that one of the fittings will go where the window is. So whatever is done will need to be suitable (and strong enough) to affix the towel rad to it.

Seems pretty doable. Internal window now. Wooden (pine frame?). So on the bathroom side put some battens in and recess them for the plaster boars and skim. You could use rockwool in the void for some more sound insulation.

On the side you want the alcove. Just use some plaster board or ply against the frame. If you want shelves 18mm ply my be best and don't use too long screws or you'll be screwing into glass.
