Is a radiator diverter supposed to form a seal inside?

My new vertical radiator comes with a spring diverter to divert the water upwards, but when inserted into the rad it doesn't exactly seal when in place, there are gaps around it where water could pass.

Is this normal?

Looks like a TRC Ancona. Perfectly normal. Read the instructions - IIRC you only need the baffle if the radiator is above a certain height

Thanks, my rad is 1800mm tall, and the instructions say they are needed above 100mm tall.
I assume water will pass through the gaps, but most will be directed upwards then?

Think it actually says, or at least is meant to say, 1000mm ;)
Yes I knew that @muggles was just having a giggle as he did post 100mm, just had this vision of turning up at a punters house with a 100mm tall column rad and saying where would you like it
