Is this the going rate or am I being overcharged?

Glad op went ok and hope got some decent painkillers.. How long off work?

And £600 for a bog? Not in this house! We did the whole lot for around £1,500k, not including the price of the bloke to knock out the chimney breast first in order to fit everything in. We did everything ourselves, plumbing etc but had new everything, sadly bought from bathstore (!) which took a couple of swaps.. moved stuff around, new tiles (fairly expensive floor ones, cheaper wall ones). We have a small bathroom.

If the OP is buying her own stuff, do you not think £4k is a lot to fit it? I do.

And yes, kitchens are more expensive, bathrooms next - but that's the only 2 rooms in a house that have to buy units for, so not really a shocker! :)

4 grand all in . and thats too much for a room that size, so i’d expect not a pipe in sight . spotlights and extractor . nice quality suite including a trojan bath resin quadrant and screen thermo shower bar decent bog and vanity unit.
1/2 tile. and full tile in shower.

for a room 2000x1700? really?
if the room was 18ft high maybe.
better if they’d given you an ego reduction while you were there.

Spent nearly 10k on my kitchen doing most of the work myself, didn't want to cut corners but I got a shock when I totted it all up.
TBF we took a wall out and put a steel in, ripped most of old ceilings out to access wiring & pipes and to cable up for new spots. Blocked off a couple of doorways so every light switch was in the wrong place. Electrics alone were 2k but we did need a new consumer unit. I did everything except electrics, dread to think what it would have cost paying someone else.

For instance let's say your having a towel rail fitted on a quality job you'd use angled rad valves pointing back towards the wall and have the pipes chased in to the wall and connected under the floor .....so in your finished bathroom you wouldn't see any pipes for the radiators and your flooring would look good. Your wall tiles would have holes in them to slide over the pipe tails so it all looks good. For the prices he's quoted you we would have put a new ceiling in and lights !

It's attention to detail that makes a good job, you can't get a good finish or pay attention to detail in two bloody days !
The price he's quoted is a quality job price and your not going to get that in two days.

The thing is had you not come on here you may not have know you were being ripped off........I haven't seen him I don't know him but I know he's not offering you value for money. His time frame is ridiculous. That's my rant over !
 
Well I’ve managed to arrange for another quote.... so it will be interesting to see what price he gives me!
 
Always ensure you have a detailed work list against which the quote is being considered. By using the same list you are able to compare like for like.
As discussed above, you seem to have been quoted a high price which doesn't offer value for money.
You also have to be wary of quotes which appear to be 'very cheap'.
Its always difficult to decide which way to go, especially if you haven't any recommendations to consider.
