Convector Radiator - possible to have inlet and outlet at same side?

Hi All,

I am looking to fit a new small 200mm high rad in an awkward space. Is it possible to have inlet and outlet on the on the same side or not? So cap one side off, have inlet at top of the other side and outlet at the bottom?

I am looking at the Ultra heat Compact range.

I've seen systems that are connected like this that work until a new radiator is fitted. I think this is because the older style rads allowed water to shoot along the length of the rad whereas the newer rads go straight into a knuckle which slows the water too much.

You'll probably find that only half of it heats up if you do that

You can but you would need to put a pipe inside the rad to force the water across the rad.

You once could get combined flow n return valves that went into one tapping on the rad but they're not made anymore, i don't think.

Might work on a small rad, top in bottom out.

Yup, funnily enough danfos are making them now > RA15/6T's

OP ..... you'd need a specific type of rad though that has a straight in entry point and the ones you are looking at doesn't have that.

Top in bottom out should work as hot water will stay on top and go accross, colder water will sink and go out the bottom connection. There maybe a slight difference in warm up time.
