Can anyone tell me what's going wrong here please? I have a feed into my shed with a simple little "garage consumer unit" on the wall... The type you get from Screwfix etc. There are 4 sockets running out of the 32A MCB (not shown on my drawing) and a single pendant light hanging in the middle of the shed operated from a PIR on the 6A MCB. It was all installed and signed off by a professional electrician.

All I'm trying to do is replace the pendant light with a 5ft LED strip light. I removed the old light, installed the new tube and now the 6A MCB trips when I try to turn it on. After some internet research leading to possible inrush current problems and some suggested that a Type C MCB can solve the problem... I've now tried that but it still trips. Wiring diagram attached.

I'm completely at a loss as to what to do/try next?! Maybe just resort to a traditional tube instead I guess?!?!

Thanks in advance...

PS I should also say that I've checked the PIR and it states it is suitable for LED use... I've also bypassed the PIR and the same problem still occurs...

have you connected to the wrong end of the tube? some have the two unused pins shorted

Valid point. But checked all that and all fine. I’ve even tried a different tube from a different manufacture now too...

It's the RCD... Might not have drawn it correctly to be fair! Will check...

What happens of you powerup without the tube in the fitting???

Its not gonna be an inrush problem with one tube on a 6A MCB.

Just to confirm, I did draw it wrong! Should have taken a photo rather than rely on my memory!! (Supply N goes into RCD...)

Anyway, sent a picture to my electrician who seems to think it should be working absolutely fine. So he’s popping in tomorrow.

Just to round up this post... Electrician has been this morning and was as dumbfounded as me. Turns out it was the PIR. He had a (different) one on the van and, after swapping it over, it now all works fine! He still doesn't know why it happened and has never seen it before!
