Hi I will be taking the opportunity to paint the outside while the scaffold is up over the next few weeks. I was removing some old woodwork at the apex yesterday so started there. I gave it a good brush down then hit it with a light pressure wash to remove the built up road grime.

what I noticed was that areas of paint were flaking off and in areas back to the original render. Areas that were less exposed were sound, the grime came off but the existing paint remained sound.

should I do this to the entire house. I don’t want to overpaint the entire house for it to start flaking.

I plan to use deluxe weather shield. Is any form of primer recommended first.

There is also a few cable holes where they cables have been removed. How best to fill these? Mortars or mastic before painting?

Personally I would do as you have done to the rest of the walls.

I strongly recommend that you buy the Dulux Trade Weathershield smooth masonry rather than the retail Dulux version. The latter is like water. It may be cheaper but you will need extra coats.

On the bare pebble dash, thin the paint slighlty, as per the instructions on the back of the tin.

You don't mention the colour but if it is white then you can often find 7.5L tubs in decorators' merchants that work out cheaper than buying 10L per litre (which in turn is cheaper than a 5L tin).

From memory, Gardenia and Magnolia are available in the Trade version at the same price as white (5 and 10L). You will pay more for mixed colour

Cable holes, I would use caulk and then try to stipple it, or push some small stones in to the caulk to maintain the pebble dash look.

If there are bad patches of Powdery or flaking on the original render then you may have to give these areas a coat of Dulux Stabilising solution before apply the masonry paint .

Apologise to jump on this post but I need same information and want get confirmation.

Got a gable end freshly rendered with pebbledash and existing already painted pebbledash wall.

How so can deal with the fresh one and what the process to stick new paint on the existing old painted to have a matching colour?

So far so good it all looks like its gone to plan. Cleaned down to remove the old paint where it isn't solid then gave it 2 coats of dulux trade weathershield. It coats nicely and looks great.
