About 10 years old. generally v pleased with it apart from chrome peeling off the pipe at the 4 year point (they replaced the pipe at no charge).

A couple of times in the last few months I've found it won't turn on, and after cycling the breaker on the CU it worked agin. Last couple of weeks the temperature varies a little, and it won't consistently get quite as hot as it used to.

Yesterday - started it, the pump ran as usual but the LED flickered/flashed at an inconsistent frequency, never went constant. Just to see what happened, I turned the knob to minimum temp. and it shut down.

It had never tripped the breaker on the CU.

I have dismantled the controller, the PCB appears well sealed and undamaged by damp. I plan to coat the 6 pins with dielectric grease (which apparently displaces so as to allow electrical contact) as I thought contact cleaner would be a temporary solution which would not provide long term protection.

Willing to be corrected of course.

I'm also thinking about re-flowing the solder joints, and I'll un-plug and grease the communication cable in the processor too if the controller work doesn't solve it.

Otherwise I guess its another PCB from Aqualisa?

Could just be that the control cable had worked slightly loose, that often produces this kind of fault

Aqualisa tech support were basically a sales team. I was told the fault would be in the processor, for which of course no spares were available and they'd superseded it with the orange housing version. I could therefore have a complete upgraded version of the same shower for about £750.

As for the fault being in the processor, the flashing LED put the fault with the controller but I already suspected that.

No discussion of the specifics was possible, and when I mentioned changing the temp. control potentiometer I was firmly told there were no user serviceable parts inside it.

The exact pot. (the blue R1 part in the picture) was available on ebay for £11, so I've changed that, and it works again so I'm calling that a win.

For any future readers - many processors are available used/recon on ebay. A couple of controllers too.

Most plumbers have simple thermostatic bar showers in their own homes...£20 to £30 will get you one :)
Replaced every 5 years it's a bargain.
All these electronic showers are overpriced junk. Buying one has the same mentality as buying a Dyson or Apple product.
Doubt they cost Aqualisa more than £50 to manufacture...

I've reached the same conclusion. This Aqualisa was an experiment really. I agree that as long as there's sufficient head pressure, future installations will be as you recommend.

Cheers - braniff
