Hello,

My outdoor security light with PIR constantly remains on, it's well over 10 years old. I tried resetting but to no avail. I purchased a new one yesterday from Lidl LED with PIR 20w. Having followed the instructions, once connected and powered, this light also remains on. I have adjusted the lux sens and time, no effects. I finally managed to turn it off from the switch that it is connected to. Now it should work and detect however it doesn't. I know if I turn the switch off and then on again, it will remain on.

I'm baffled and don't understand why the BRAND new installed light doesn't work as intended. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Yes working fine for many years, no issues until recently when it just remained on and wouldn't turn off automatically, so I assumed the PIR might be malfunctioning.
That would seem to be a correct assumption.

If you could post a picture of the wiring at the light it might give a clue.

However - there's many an hour wasted because of faulty new parts.

With some PIR's if you switch off then on again it over rides the PIR so it can be used as a switchable light. Isolate all power for 10 minutes, (switch the mcb off or pull the fuse, whatever cuts the total power, not just the switch), restore the power and it will come on. It should then only stay on for a determined time. If it fails to go out I would take it back.

Had the mains turned off for over 10 minutes but no difference, light is still remaining on.

I disconnected the light now. I watched a few videos on Youtube last might showing how to connect to a 3 pin plug using twin and earth. The plug has a 3 amp fuse as per the videos. The security light remains on and turning the lux sens time has no effect. This must prove the light is faulty and the PIR is not working. Time to return back to Lidl and get a refund, best buying one from Screwfix or Toolstation.

Returned the light back to Lidl for full refund. Purchased new LED 50W from Toolstation, worked straight out of box as intended.

 The ad title says 50W but the lamp label says 30W. ?
