Crack in wall/ceiling

I've noticed a crack which runs from the ceiling, then across a bit, then a good way down the wall - see photo. This is on an exterior wall, with no sign of damage outside. It has definitely been there at least a month and a half, but I don't know if it has been there for much longer. It's a narrow crack - can just get a fingernail in in the widest bits.

How do I work out of it's a cause for concern or best just left? Am I as well to just wait a month or two and see if anything changes?

Thanks!

NorthnotNorth, good evening.

Can I ask that you undertake a test??

The test is fairly simple, can you tap withe your knuckles or a small metal tool, if you can tap on the crack and extend your "Tapping" to about 30 cm each side of the crack.

Why? because if, when you tap it sounds hollow? the crack has formed between two plasterboard panels. If when you tap it sounds solid then that can indicate a different problem?

Finally what age is the property?

Ken.

What if it gives a hollow sound of blown plaster?

I think the OP needs top provide lots more information to avoid any hollow answers.

The house was built in the 1930s. Tapping a long the crack, part sounds hollow and most just sounds like the rest of the wall (it's a long crack!)

Basically, you can't just post a picture of a crack and get meaningful replies. Top avoid me running a list off here, have a look at some of the other similar posts to see what detail is required.

To bump a very old thread, the crack stayed much as it was for a year plus. I've now noticed, though, that if I lean on one side of the crack it gets slightly (maybe a mm) wider and there is a hollow sound when I tap round there. Does that mean an issue with plasterboards/blown plaster seems likely? The crack hasn't been bothering me for the past year or so, but this may be something that needs work now?
