Hi guys, I’m looking for a bit of advice/guidance with a project I’m about to start.

I’m a collector of football shirts. A few years ago I saw some photos of a really cool wall display of football shirts and I’ve decided I want to replicate it as best I can.

Unfortunately I can only find two pictures on the internet of said display, my best guess is they are displayed in some kind of Perspex shelves. I’ve never tried to buy Perspex before, but it seems expensive, not sure if that’s always been the case or if prices have risen due to covid and Perspex screens being in higher demand.

so I turned to looking at mdf wood as an alternative. Which I think is the only route to go down. But wanted to see if anyone on here would have any better ideas? Would appreciate any advise. Thanks in advance.

Try searching Pinterest for other ideas. Good luck.

Whatever you do it will not be cheap. Delves are expensive as they need a lot of material.

Was thinking if you could make if with plastic boxes, or hundreds of plastic dovument holders from IKEA (but need to walk arround looking for solutions.

Or this with draw fronts cut off. But a lot of plastic on show.

Other wise I feel it needs a professional chippie do make it to get the required precision. I would have mdf uprights with slots routed in it for thin perspex shelves.

Hi guys thanks for all your advice.
Yes I’m looking for the front to be open rather than actual boxes. move also been making cardboard templates, just to see what dimensions would be needed. I think each shelf would have to be, roughly 40cm wide, 10-12cm tall, with a depth of around 25cm. Which unfortunately rules out some of the plastic drawer boxes that are sold online.
my other idea was to get a “Billy” bookcase from IKEA and just fit the shelves inside myself.
I do know a joiner and was thinking of speaking to him next week to see if he could advise anything also. I also saw this online....

Think 'no shelves'. Have a cabinet, tall, slim (several if needed, side by side). Purchase flat-pack cardboard boxes (like pizza boxes that you fold into shape) online, the correct width for the cabinet. Fold each shirt around the front of the box- lovely square edges. Then stack them, as opposed to a shelf for each one.
