I would be very surprised if there isn't access inside the cupboard ,as awkward as it will be.

A 10 minute plumbing job turned into half a day due to inaccesability is sooo frustrating...Do you charge the customer 10mins or half a day to swap a tap?

I would charge a set price to replace taps (and take my chances) as appose to charging per hour.(I always say it will be £@# to change tap if it is a straight forward job) if I have to start removing tiles,cupboards etc then the price structure changes depending on time it will take. I always tell them that before I even start. But judging by some of the comments I’ve seen on some of these forums regarding tap changes they would be suggesting call in tiler to replace tiles,chippie to take out cupboard,plumber to change tap and then the price goes into hundreds of pounds lol

Hi All

Just adding more images. I’d say you’d have to be a contortionist to get your head in that cupboard, then work blind to find the relevant nuts on the pipes. (Bloody difficult just getting phone in at right angle to take a picture!) I can’t see the connections in the photos, but stands to reason that they’re going to be a fair distance from the top of the cupboard?

looks like solder fittings cant see any nuts that can be taken apart , looks like you will have to cut pipework and replace , the last plumber seems to have made sure the tap will never come off , oh the joy of plumbing .

As above,cut pipe work(isolate supply first). Then undo and replace tap,(use flexi,s). You will be surprised at the contortionist skills of a plumber,especially during a tirade of f bombs and constant cursing of previous plumber.smh (that very first pic,is that a iso valve i can see with a green connection)?

Some time ago an elderly neighbour asked me to replace her dripping tap.
I found this setup under her sink...

I was done before tea was ready.

Thanks for responses. Shame I’m not up to cutting pipework. What a palaver, just to replace a grotty tap. When I had the recent problem with the concealed toilet cistern, I phoned the builder that did our bathroom. (About 20 years ago) He was honest enough to admit that future access to pipework wasn’t a consideration when he did the job. All about tiling and covering everything up.

Hi again

Hope everyone ok in our Boris lockdown. I’ve given up on replacing ****ty tap, as need plumber to cut pipes etc. I wanted to simply remove cartridge thing to fix leak, but can’t even do that as the red cap covering retaining screw is solid, completely encrusted etc. Anyone know how I go about removing it? Don’t think pliers will do, as nothing to get purchase on.

Hi again.

Prised red cap off tap. Still confused. Thought there would be a grub screw of some sort to unloosen, so used Allen key that came with recent curtain pole. (Similar size grub screw?)

I’ve tried inserting but no joy twisting. It is possible there is no screw, and I just need to loosen tap itself? (After switching water off)
