Someone told me that you can’t actually use the gyproc Skimcoat stuff over top of the gyproc joint compound (multipurpose) because it’s sort of incompatible, something about the skimcoat being a veneer plaster and putting over joint compound is wrong. He said skim the whole surface with joint compound instead!

is this correct??

I should also mention my substrate is gyproc plasterboard

you could skim the whole surface with jointing compound but it wont be a good finish and you will have to sand it back.

i rang gyproc and the technical advisor said absolutely no issue putting gyproc skimcoat over gyproc joint filler multipurpose. he also gave me a step by step walkthrough of using the skimcoat plaster, said its a better option than rolling on thinned out joint filler as the skim coat

Do you sand the joint filler back to a perfect level 4 finish before skimcoat? What level of imperfection can be left before skimcoat layers

Ok so I had good go of this yeasterday. Skimcoat. Tricky business

My feeling is that it’s not the worst result for a first try at the process but there are still multiple spots that couldn’t get perfect before it starting setting.

I know best option was to get someone in who is an expert but I just wanted to try.

anyway, the question is now how do I fix the few ‘blemishes’ or little spots of recess after it’s set/still drying? Please don’t tell me it has
To be another skim coat. Is there something I can fill with and then sand? Can you smooth out some of those spots with new plaster or need something special?
