Hi all,

I have a basic plumbing question. I want to connect a 15 mm dia flexible hose between a toilet cistern and isolation valve. I thought I'd need a short section of copper pipe between them and use 15 mm compression to 1/2inch flexible hose.

I noticed if I remove the nut and olive from the isolation value the 1/2 end of the hose screws on. Is it ok to screw a 1/2 inch fitting onto a compression fitting as shown below? If so I might get a 1/2inch to 1/2inch flexible hose.

Please see the images.

1. Its not really meant to go like that. The end of the valve shank is fairly "sharp", as the edge is chamfered to take an olive. There is a risk it will cut the sealing washer inside the flexi's female end. However, lots of people do it.
2. You could:
2a. Use denso13's suggestion of filing off the sharp edge of the valve. You need to be able to file reasonably flat and square to the threads.
2b. Get an adaptor, such as Screwfix 2665R. The plain end goes into the compression end of the valve, the male threaded end takes the female end of the flexi.
2c. Risk it.

Some 60ish grit sanding paper on somewhere flat could be an easier option than having a wide enough file at hand, it'll rip it flat in no time
