Rip-off or great value?

Our boiler recently died. It's a 15kw System boiler (Potterton) fifteen years old, and I want to replace like for like. A local installer has quoted me £2376.00 for: Installation of Worcester Bosch 15 Ri boiler located in existing boiler position. Worcester Greenstar filter and system flush. Removal of old boiler and waste.

I have no idea whether this is great value or a rip-off, because there's no breakdown of his quote. A check online tells me:
Worcester-Bosch 15ri retailing at £687.07 (Plumbnation)
Filter at £109.98 (Plumbnation)
Total hardware: £797.05 plus VAT

This makes the installation labour cost including flush £1,182.00 plus VAT.

This seems a little high to me, but I have no idea if it's a rip-off or great value. When I asked for a breakdown of the quote to include things like guarantee and labour costs, I got a 'take it or leave it' type reply.

Can I source the boiler myself for the above price, and get a price from an installer for installation only?

Comments please from anyone who can help me understand these costs....

£687 Seems cheap for a Worcester system boiler.

Get some other quotes, like for like and then you’ll know.

1. Does the quote include VAT, or is VAT to be added?
2. Whereabouts in the UK are you? In Central London its a steal, in more rural areas it might be a bit over the top.
3. In your costing you have not included a flue, or any controls to make the installation ERP compliant.
4. You might well find an engineer prepared to install a boiler and accessories you have bought, but expect then to pay for anything that has been forgotten.
5. You might also find installers only prepared to do the work on a "time and materials" basis, rather than at a fixed price.
6. The quality of the installation is the key factor in getting a long life out of the boiler. You might get a 5 year warranty, but if it is not installed to the manufacturers instructions, they will almost certainly try and walk away from any warranty claim.

Rural Somerset. I am assuming the flue already fitted will be fine, and controls are all there. All we are doing is replacing the boiler unit with the same size.

No you'll need a new flue amongst other things like pipework and fittings. Price isn't cheap but not too bad.

A flush with Brit gas is about £650-00p and last time I heard a length of 22mm copper pipe was £64-00p so I’d go for it. Bob

I would get three quotes and compare what is included in the price, as well as comparing the price.

It’s insanely expensive. Will take him one day to swap over but all the tradesmen here will come saying they have to get to the job and pay for kit etc so they justify a 1k a day job as being normal!!

just like my hubby needs to get to the office for 9am and buy a suit and everything else.

Makes IT contractors on 600 a day look cheap

Hahaha, comparing someone who works in an office with someone running there own business, thats a good one.
Many people who work in an office are running their own business, only they do it from an office.
