Upstairs bathroom on floorboard: how to stop water from seeping through the gaps?

Hi all,
We've got a bathroom upstairs which we have fitted a couple years back.

The floor is made out of original floorboards and it usually is fine; however when we have (inconsiderate?) guests over, there's always water pooling on the floor around the bathtub.

Sometimes that causes problems as it stains the ceiling of the dining room downstairs.

Seeing as I have access to the void from a couple of floorboards, is there any "spongy" material that can be laid in the void so to catch and absorb any excess water that will permeate through?
Or alternatively, how can we seal the gaps? Silicone?

Thanks

I don't think an absorbant material is a good idea- it will struggle to dry out, so will go mouldy, and could cause significant issues, such as rot.

I would say silicone, or you can get long thin wedge-shaped staves that you glue between the boards.

Or rip it out, and fit a water proof floor!

Clear silicone + custom sign that says "Guests, do not wet the floor, or service charge will apply!" You will find all the guests will clean the floor for you.

Nowt wrong with wooden floorboards in bathrooms, unless people think it’s a wet room. Put a bath mat down next to the shower

I have a feeling people may be using a shower which splashes out of the bath, perhaps with a poor shower curtain.
