Hotter water wanted from cylinder

I've just bought a five year old house and have I have now established that I have an unvented water cylinder (in the airing cupboard on the first floor) which next to it is a digital box that could be an on/off regulator, or a thermostat.....not sure.
And I have a Worcester Greenstar R. I. system boiler on the ground floor.
Ok......
1) Which do I use the raise the temperature of the shower?
2) There are three silver boxes in the airing cupboard ....(do they contain valves to regulate flow??).....I am guessing that the boiler heats the water cylinder and radiators separately.....but can I leave the boiler on to heat the water, but turn the radiators off?
There are thermostats also on the ground and first floors!

As you have thermostats on the ground and first floor, I’d guess that the three valves are for ground floor heating, first floor heating and hot water. There should be some kind of thermostat on the hot water cylinder to adjust the temperature of the hot water.
 
Thanks, but would the temperature control be that box with a digital front affixed to the wall next to the cylinder?

Dunno. Doubt it as they are normally on the cylinder. That’s possibly the controller. A picture would help. Your cylinder stat could look something like these possibly.

Your hot water should be set as a standard at around 60Deg. It will be a control on the cylinder but you really don't want to be playing with that.
Is the hot water out of the basin/sink taps hot enough?

If so and your shower isn't hot enough then chances are it's a problem with the shower and that's what you need to look at.
 
Thanks for the replies and I really won't be touching anything!
The shower is fine when at its top point on the dial inside the shower cubicle. Normally when you turn the dial to its highest point in other showers the water gets rather hot. Mine is a decent acceptable temperature at best.
 
There's probably a temperature limit feature on your shower which has been left at the factory "safe" setting.
 
And here is the thermostat next to the cylinder.

That looks more like the programmer, not the cylinder-stat?
 
A plumber who visited my house couldn't understand why the programmer was there and a plumber today in Cheltenham told me being in that position it would affected by the heat coming off the water cylinder.
If it is a programmer.........do I assume that it regulates what times the boiler comes on and off???
