What ho one and all,

I have a Titan (Screwfix) leaf blower that does what it says on the box, until a few days ago, when the 'Stop' switch decided not to work. The only way to stop it is to turn the choke to the start position!

Titan kindly sent me a replacement switch, but that is not the problem, as it still will not stop.

Given that it is a relatively simple 2 stroke, what could the problem be? Cannot see any obviously worn cables; what else?

Of course, the strange thing is that all Google searching provides answers relating to not starting; nothing about not stopping!

Grateful for your thoughts,

Rex

Check to make the wire going to and from the switch is making a contact at both ends.

Good advice above.....the switch is enclosed in plastic and therefore needs one wire from the ignition coil then a return wire to somewhere on or near the metal engine.
John :)

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried to see where the wires go, but it needs more disassembly to find the other ends.

Fortunately, Screwfix have a 1 year warranty and that expires on Nov 13! Unfortunately, they do not have the same Titan in stock until January but are offering me an 'upgrade' to a more expensive model that on the SF web site, does not receive universal approval reviews.

I hate to return it for something that is page one to DIY fix.

What I don't understand, if one of the wires has become loose, and the switch is for on and off, why does it start? Surely it is effectively off?

It's not off, the switch shorts the circuit.
Without the switch, it will run all the time. It doesn't need the switch to run, it needs it to stop.
I hope I've explained it properly.

Think that makes sense. So I assume that one of the wires to the switch has come loose were it is not so visible.

Perhaps I will investigate somewhat deeper tomorrow and if I cannot solve the mystery, return to Screwfix. Most inconvenient at this time of the year.

Gentlemen,

Many thanks for the info regarding why my leaf blower will not stop. Did not understand it, but with your assistance, I now do. And yes, it was a broken wire. Sort length of new wire, bit of solder and some heat shrink and now the switch stops the machine. Frankly, I feel it is a bit of poor design; the wires are threaded via a number of U shaped 'slots' in the plastic housing and are pushed in very hard. Obviously to prevent them vibrating loose, but this one had may be been pushed too hard during manufacturer as it has broken at one of these holding points.

And of course, it was the black wire, which was below the red one, so not immediately visible.
