Great news on the vaccine!!

The issue with this vaccine is the production and storage. It may be the front runner but it may not be the first one that actually gets used en masse. Witty was correct to warn people though this was indeed a welcome development - the practicalities of this vaccine may slow its roll out down.

I think it depends on your GP. I am still able to see mine - took my son in who had an ear infection. I think as you have mentioned some are trying not to see patients.
I posted a few weeks ago, about having to have stitches out. Told to have them done at the GP.
Trying to book an appointment, I rang up and got five minutes of covid recorded message, ending with "we are sorry, but we are closed"!

Is your practice not using e-consult?

For those that cannot they can still ring in, but yes, there are practices that are making it difficult to see patients.

Just out of interest when you visited your local practice - did you tend to see the GPs or Nurse Practitioners?

When phones first came out, not every one had them.
But everyone answered them.
Now we are awash with phones.
And no one answers them.
At least not the ones you really need.

How can you get an e consult if you can't get an answer on the phone to make an appointment?
No mention on the answerphone message about anything online.

Re GP vs nurse practitioner ; depends on the issue.
For the relatively recent ear infections, it was a GP (different one every time).

Both are already in late stage production. I’m closer to what is going on with one than the other. All the adverse reaction tools have been scaled up ready. Both companies are working with the same big tech firms. Some of my clients were engaged in CRO (a kind of clinical outsource). It’s going to be rolled out top down so that those whose risk is highest get doses first. Over 85s then over 75s. Unlikely they will vaccinate the under 45s. Havent been involved since June but kept an eye on progress. Original plan was for sept/Oct

I've just come out of the hospital, and been told I may need a scan "which will have to be booked via your GP".
Which the doctor followed up with "If you can get hold of them."
The doctor clearly needed to vent, and did.
"We've worked straight through, and the GPs have locked themselves away for so long, they're scared to come out now!"
We can still see ours but we have a telephone apt first to see if they actually need to see you physically. To collect a prescription now is through a tiny gap on their front door, they don't even open it. I can understand a bit - 2 of the 7 doctors there got covid back at the beginning, one quite badly apparently (so said the receptionist when I asked) so I guess they're cautious for a reason at ours.

I am waiting for a referral for a scan too, 12 days ago they said that they would send me off for one.. nada yet.

I do think also it depends on how badly hit an area you are in. Where I am (so far), it's not been silly and no local lockdowns, unlike where you are?

The econsult - you complete a questionaire which is sent to the GP and then they should respond within 48 hours. Been working fine at my practice.

There should be a link on your practice website.

Yes, it's pathetic. My GP practice is about as easy to get into as Fort Knox since beginning of first lockdown. Even when lockdown eased they still kept hiding behind phones and e consults. Just as well hospitals didn't do this.
