Hi, could you please advise the correct method and type of paint needed to paint a roller garage door (see attached photo).

I was wondering if there is a specific type of paint I need to use so it does not crack when the roller door is opened. The door itself does not get used that much, I’d say a couple of times a month at the most, whether this makes a difference or not.

I expect I should clean it thoroughly with something like sugar soap/degreaser beforehand. Should I use an undercoat or is the current base fine?

I also plan to paint the lock mechanism with metal paint but that should be the easy part.

You would certainly need to use the correct primer first.

Is this galvanised?

A special metals primer may do the job, depending on what metal that is.

TIP: Don't paint this door, leave it as it is.

How can you tell if it’s galvanised? I can post a closer photo of it will help.

If painting isn’t recommended is there a way of bringing back the shine?
