Cheques. Who uses them?

DVLA use them! If you want a driver's details, you must use a cheque or even worse Postal order!
 
I remember the time if you wanted tickets for a gig it was Postal orders, fill in the form in NME then when they got returned had to cash em in less commission

I used to be an avid reader of the NME, great articles but for me the highlight was the 'Lone Groover' cartoon, that would have been around 75,76.

Yes remember that, used to buy the NME at the newsstand outside work, read it in the toilets and swap with a colleague who bought Sounds
 
Not quite true. My neighbours son had a Coutts bank account and he was only 20 at the time - he worked for an affiliated bank Nat West or RBS I think and they were allowed to have an account with them.

Coutts, Bank of Ireland, Nat West, Green Flag, Direct Line were part of the RBS empire.
