Hi,

I have a PW-W pir in my garage, (Premier Elite 64). It has been working absolutely fine for numerous months, it is part armed every night.

In the last couple of days it has been triggering a false alarm, nothing has changed in the garage and I am struggling to find the cause.

Wintex shows the battery as green. As its been cold lately I guess the battery voltage could be dropping but not enough for wintex to show it as low.

Any advice on if it could be the battery appreciated, or anything else it may be.

Thanks

Dave

Have you cleaned around sensor ? and checked inside sensor.
Pir's in garages can false alarm for various reasons, spiders, leaves on floor and wind blowing under door, rodents etc.
I always install dual technology sensors in garages .

Hi,

Not checked inside the sensor yet but have cleaned the sensor and around it. Could something get inside as it seems well sealed.

No leaves or anything that can be blown about. Rodents are a slim possibility but as its a pet safe model I didn't think something that small would set it off.

Dual sensor would be better but its been working fine with no false alarms for several months.

Thanks

Dave

DT-W would be the best bet, you’re using the wrong sensor in the wrong environment unfortunately.

I have 2 DT-W’s (shed and garage) and both (touch wood) have been flawless.

As above

I fitted a PIR in the garage in the full knowledge that it could false alarm and it did (It was one I had lying around at the time). I changed to a dual-tech and even that false alarmed one night after a number of years of working fine. I believe it was a mouse that cause the alarm as I have had various things nibbled in there and found droppings and nests.

You recently moved/ moving house so the sensor hasn't been up long?

The problem may not be a false alarm, but an unwanted alarm, DT is always the way to go in a garage but spiders and the like can cause unwanted alarms.

The best way is to set up a camera and see what is causing it if nothing is obvious in side the pir or in its immediate vicinity, you may well be surprised at the cause.

Hi,

Not moved yet, so the sensor has been up in the garage for numerous months with no issues at all, nothing has changed in there, which is what is totally confusing me.

Taken it apart today and looks like new inside with no webs or insects.

Its a PW-W pet safe so even if there was a rodent, which I am confident there isn't, I didn't think something that small would set it off.

I have taken a PW-W sensor out of another room, changed the part arm settings, and put it in place of the other one. Been in there for a couple of hours, no alarm, yet.

The other one alarmed virtually straight away, after a settle down period.

If it doesn't alarm now from the garage I guess it must be the sensor, battery is reading 3v when installed. So my original thoughts of the battery getting low and causing the problem seem incorrect. Its under 2 years old so hopefully get a warranty replacement.

Ordered a DT- W today but want to find out what is causing the alarm, if I ever can.

Thanks for your help.

Petwise sensors ignore pets that are below a certain height, rodent running up a vertical wall would set any device off pretty much, yes i have seen rat run straight up an 8ft wall outside seen mice go under a closed door.

spiders you can often see activity, in new webs or threads left behind (in front of the sensor), camera is best.

seen slug trails over pcbs etc etc.

You can bring the sensor and place t in abox out of the way and see if it activates.

Had that with a faulty iwise wireless device but it was inconsistent. Placed it in a box for over a week, just as we thought it was location related it activated in the middle of the night for two nights so device was self activating.

if you keep the device in situ you could put it on a different Area, latch key monitor only, so you would still get an activation and it be logged and if you have the app you can get a notification.....

Thanks for all the pointers will try what you mention to see what happens. My current bet is the sensor, but I've lost bets before :)

Thanks very much for your help and sharing your knowledge.

Activated in a box, sent back for replacement under warranty.
