He wore full PPE - mask, gloves, overalls, face shields etc. but even that was not enough to protect him from infected patients. Which makes me think - are masks good enough? How many infected people do we walk past everyday?

Some will take drugs just to look good for the weekend.....
I used to lift weights, from the mid - eighties until I started swimming around 2010.
Loads did gear, many for the show muscles - chest and biceps - never did a leg day, covered in acne.

If you're a reader or anyone else here if you haven't read it read 'Breaking the chain' its a fantastic account of the rife drug abuse in the pro cycle world in the 80s. Not much of a reader but found it a riveting fascination read cover to cover. A real eye opener on the lengths they went to avoid detection and the risks they took with their health to gain that edge.

That's the problem - it can be caught anywhere. I'll bet it's changed but some reports when this started showed front line people coming out of a covid area and immediately removing masks etc and walking around as were others. Some probably caught it from each other.

Masks - in out case it's to prevent us giving it to others and not for protecting us from catching it. Might help a touch though.

I thought they had revised that when it became necessary to persuade more to wear them.

I think they proved they helped with the viral load? Making the symptoms less severe.

'We will follow the science' he espoused...

But he only 'follows the science' when it suits, and heaps the blame on the 'science' when it opposes his political objectives...

Then we have the chaos at the highest level with goebbels being replaced by carrie and her 'gang', so who knows who is actually in control!

Thus it is reasonable to object to another attempt to curtail freedom of speech or thought...

Because who in the end does that favour?

Better to have an educated population and a transparent system...

It seems at present we have the opposite!

No it's always been as I stated. The masks we are supposed to use provide very little protection. It's spread by aerosols by people who are infected just by breathing even those that don't have symptoms. They also breath onto things and create touch points.

To be honest I don't think they explain anything that well as they dream up short catchy instructions and keep repeating them without elaborating on the detail. Masks when people can't distance has been mentioned but very briefly.

If some one wants complete protection when others aren't wearing masks they need the right type of mask and a face shield. Maybe earplugs too. They would also need to change the mask regularly. Same with the face shield really. Some people seem to think just a face shield is ok. Others think masks that squirt breath out though a valve are ok.

The beeb broadcasts footage of the sort of thing that is causing current problems regularly without any comment at all. 2 favourites are 4 young females sitting around a small table chatting etc and drinking coffee outdoors. They probably feel they are in a support bubble. Then shopping. Most have masks with them but only wear them when in actual shops but loads of people about so distancing is impossible all of the time. Then demo's of course - no immediate effect due to the age of the people that tend to be in them. Some will need hospital though as will some of the coffee drinkers etc. Most don't. But yes any mask should provide some degree of protection. That's why they tell people to be careful when they are handling them. I have a feeling the best thing to do with a mask that has been worn is to give it a real blast in the microwave. All virus and microbes need their tiny drop of water. Pity that some one who could hasn't tested it.

My brother has been exposed. Don't know yet if he has caught it yet. Formed a support bubble with his daughter mostly to look after the kids. She's in another type with her ex husband to share the kids. Dropping the kids off means she can go off for whatever. She currently isn't working - child minder cost trap. Her ex is not what some would call reliable in any way at all. Maybe the kids bought it in. They are young. Play school etc. They had been with brother and wife most of the day then daughter turns up to collect knowing she has it. Test and trace contacted all of them probably from the ex initially.

Test and trace have been asking people what they were doing around the time when they probably caught it - eating out etc is very common, according to a brief announcement on the news. I'm sort of hoping this is why gov support for people has been extended well into next year. There has also been a murmur that we have a higher proportion of people working in these areas than other countries and that makes things more difficult. So sounds like they are thinking about it.

C4 Dispatches at 9pm tonight is on covid and how it's been handled. It will probably be rather one sided but may be of interest. News to watch - BBC but they broadcast too many hours of it and C4 who usually pad it out with back ground info. Sometimes they are also being sensational. Both do give useful info at times. About the only sources that do.
