Extension socket advice..

Hi all,

I'm looking at fitting a wall socket and running the cable out the back, through wall in to a cupboard and putting a plug top on the end of the cable and plugging it into a existing wall socket. The new socket would be used for a router and a lamp. Is this OK to do? I suppose its the same as an extension lead, just the new socket will be permanently fixed to the wall.

Existing socket is also a spur which feeds a light in the cupboard via a FCU.

So better to use a regular extension lead?

PS. Why doesn't existing installation meet regs? It's been fused down for the light.
 
You said it was a spur socket which then supplied further power to the lights. You may have meant something different?

The spur socket can't be extended from . If your fcu is connected to the socket it's a spur from a spur. Not allowed.
 
Oh right okay, didn't realise it didn't meet regs.

So my options are:

Lose the FCU and existing socket and extend the cable through to the new socket therefore losing the light & socket in the cupboard?

Lose the FCU and use a regular extension lead to the new socket location, but then can I run a light on a plug top plugged into cupboard socket?

Sorry, just want to make sure I understand. So the FCU first then I can go to a JB, and then to a light and 2 sockets? (as long as not exceeding 13a load)
 
Not quite. The supply cable that currently feeds your socket ( this is the spur) goes into the supply terminals of an fcu. Then a cable from the load side of the fcu feeds your original socket,and from there it can feed another new socket,if you wish. You can also run from the fcu's load terminals a second cable to another switched fcu ( fused to 3 amp )to supply your light.
So all cables from the load terminals of the first fcu are protected by its 13 amp fuse.

The way I read OP is he wants to mount the socket of an extension lead on a wall and plug this into a socket in a cupboard. the socket happens to have a spur to a FCU for a light.
I assume the socket is on a ring final but OP doesn't say so.

What am I missing here?
 
Sorry, should have been clearer.

The existing socket is spurred off a socket on the ring, and there's an FCU spurred off the spur socket

In that case previous advice of non conformity is correct.

How easy would it be to run another cable and include these 2 accessories into the ring? It would be the nicer option.
