I have found what I assume is the system drain in my garage (previous owner thoughtfully left a length of hose on it).

However, I have also found on in my 1st floor over garage extension... Real noob question, but will I have to use both? I only have one system.

Also, any idea why someone would add the pipe work into a room and attach a drain like this? In case there’s a hidden reason before I start messing with the system?

The lowest point will drain more than a drain cock at a higher level on the same system. There May be a reason that the one in your pic has been added ,but anyone's guess as to why.

?
Don't touch that upstairs one - if it's opened it will dribble like a good un. The carpet needs to be pulled back to work on those useless (type a ?) drain cocks.

And there's a good chance that that the washer will have welded itself to the brass seating anyway. Nasty \\\\\\\ ///////things
