I use a sturdy scraper and never failed.
If it's really tight, i use a filling spatula first to open the gap, than the scraper.

Hi Johnny, I too have what you describe but this item helps when you have limited space for leverage. Some if the old timers in my work have these simple metal levers and I want to be able to source them for my teams....struggling though

Iain, since you have one or even pics, find a local fabricator and ask for a quote, in a masses, it's a simple CNC drawing and a break press to bend them. Or even on a not so busy day, get yourself a sheet of metal, a file, a grinder and a vice to hammer the fold over at the end. I could knock one of these up by hand in about 10 minutes if I had the equipment. To temper, heat up until red hot and drop into oil.
