Got a cut and bare wire showing on this wire. It's going to be plugged into mains inside the extractor. I've covered it with electrical tape. Is this safe?

To replace cable completely would need undo screws and go into motor

From what I can see, as long as there is no copper showing, It will be just fine.

The cable for this extractor has no earth just live and neutral. Been through this on previous thread though.

I double wrapped the exposed bit on cable where u see the copper with electrical tape.

So called electrical tape drys out and comes off. Use self amalgamating tape.
Over the electrical tape or take that off?

Got suspicion it's the (live) brown wire that I can see through white outer insulation not copper . If so not as bad as I first thought.

Take the electrical tape off first.

Heat shrink is OK but you need an end to get it over.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother taping it. It's not like it is going to move around like a power tool or hoover. It's just you that's gonna know about it and it will bug you to death knowing it's there....:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Put that self amalgamating tape on. Funny stuff isn't it. I guess need to wait for it to go off.

Hope it doesn't full off, the extractor's fan thing is right below

The tape is far too loose.

You are suppose to pull to three times its original length (like elastic) while wrapping it round the cable overlapping the previous turn by at least half - then it will stick to itself and eventually become like a one piece rubber tube.

Where is the socket the plug is going to go in and how doe it exit the trunking? i.e. Is the a hole for the cable to come through and, if so, does it have a grommet fitted?

Socket is in chimney. Do the photos answer your other question?

I'll redo it. Isn't this tape usually used on leaking pipes?

It's used for a multitude of things, very much a thing in mobile comms outside to protect Coax joints.
