Hi all,

I've currently got a Hotpoint dishwasher that's 15 years old, it was a hand me down from my parents,

Recently the heater failed so I replaced that, then the top arm stopped spinning, so i bought a new arm and rear seal, after a week of waiting and being told I need to wait longer, I thought I would bodge the rear seal, went to try it and now the drain pump has failed.

So now I've resigned myself it's time to get a new dishwasher.

I don't want to go Hotpoint or brands from the same group, as recently purchased products have not met the same standard as this old unit.

I've seen a candy machine that's the size we want and is mid range price, but is candy a good reliable brand?

About 6 years ago after getting stung over the years with various crap new appliances from various brands I now just buy second hand Hotpoint's and the like, half price or less for a reasonable spec machine from a second hand appliance shop and usually delivery within 24 hours, if it gets through the 3 month warranty period it's likely not gonna be a dud. So far I think I'm quids in.

Our Hotpoint dishwasher has been going strong since 2001. All it’s ever needed has been the top arm and the tablet tray cover. I’m impressed because we long ago gave up on Hotpoint washing machines after our 5th one gave up.

Yeah the old stuff seems to last but the new stuff no chance.

The Bosch is just that much out of our price range for the size we need.

I was hoping there may be appliance engineers on here who will say yes they are good or not good..

My parents have purchased hoover washing machine and tumble dryer and they seem good quality and my parents haven't said anything bad. Though they have only had them a year

I know they are owned by the same company but are the products the same internally (badge engineered) or are they built according to their price point?

I've got a Hoover dishwasher (rebadged Candy model) and while it washes great, I've got the engineer coming out for the second time in two months due to an electrical fault. The door handle is also wearing badly after 18 months. My AEG appliances are all working 100% with no issues even with heavy use so I'd avoid Candy personally.

Candy and Hoover are almost identical - they are the very low end cheaply made crap on the market.

A lot of the latest Candy / Hoover appliances I have worked on have the three words on the label you don't wanna see, Made in PRC.
Bosch, Electrolux group which includes Zanussi, AEG, John Lewis are a better bet. Don't dismiss Beko, Blomberg, although Turkish made are ok.

So it seems there is currently a shortage on dishwashers due to covid.

I did settle on a Bosch series 2 but stock was hard to come by and was close to £400 by the time carriage was added.

So decided to look at beko, and ended up settling on a grundig from Curry's, apparently made by beko and have a 5 year parts and labour guaruntee.

Hopefully made the right choice, I only Google them after purchase and didn't like the reviews... That said it was beko service team that was replying so fingers crossed all will be well.

So despite my previous ramblings, the current (7 year old Hotpoint) FF has given up the ghost, some feverish (possibly slightly drunken) googling and I've tossed that all aside for Miele, delivered Friday, time will tell ....
